🧐 About Me

Hi, I’m Mandy.

I started The Budget Bee because I’ve seen how much our relationship with money is shaped long before we ever open a bank account—and how little we actually talk about it.

I grew up in a household where money was tight. When I was young, my father lost his job, and while my parents did an incredible job shielding us from the worst of it, I still felt the impact. I remember learning early on that money—or the lack of it—could change everything.

What we didn’t do was talk about it.

So like a lot of people, I grew up with an underlying fear: What if I didn’t have enough? What if I lost it all?

As I got older, I made a decision—I wasn’t going to avoid money. I was going to understand it.

I ended up with a Master’s of Business Administration, a Project Management Professional certification and a 25-year career with the federal government largely focused on resource management. I’m also the owner of Amanda Poffenberger Photography, and the highest rated photographer in Ashburn (by Google reviews).

Here’s what I’ve learned along the way:

šŸ‘‰ Money isn’t just about numbers—it’s about behavior, mindset, and the stories we carry with us.

And those stories can either help us… or quietly hold us back.

What You’ll Find Here

At The Budget Bee, I share:

  • Practical, real-world money advice
  • The psychology behind financial decisions
  • Honest perspectives on things people don’t always say out loud

All delivered with a little bit of wit—and yes, occasionally, a subtle sting.

Why ā€œThe Budget Beeā€?

Because good financial habits don’t happen by accident.

They’re built through small, consistent actions over time—and sometimes, a little nudge in the right direction.

If You’re Here…

You’re probably someone who wants to:

  • feel more in control of your money
  • make smarter decisions without overcomplicating things
  • understand why you do what you do with money

You’re in the right place.

šŸ That’s the buzz!
